local pilots… Eugene Bullard

One person that I found very interesting was Eugene Bullard. Eugene was born in our very own Columbus, Georgia and was one of the first African American pilots in France. I also found it interesting that Bessie Coleman had to get her license in France as well. They both had to leave the US to become a pilot because at the time the US wouldn’t allow African American Pilots yet alone women pilots. Then after Willa Brown was the first African American woman to earn a license in the US. These people are so important because they made history. They defied all odds and followed what I hope was their dreams. Not only did they make history but Eugene made history from our very own Columbus, Georgia. I’m also very surprised that I have never heard of any of these people until now, that no one really speaks about these people.
